Why Go on a Tour in South Africa?

One of the best reasons to visit South Africa is to experience its natural beauty. The country is home to a variety of landscapes, from mountains and forests to grasslands and coastline. You will also find several national parks where you can see some of the world’s most iconic animals, such as lions, elephants, and rhinos. Here are a few more reasons why South Africa tours are an exciting experience, and why you should consider it for your itinerary.

Great Weather

In general, South Africa is a very sunny nation with over 300 days of sunshine each year. The Western Cape is home to the city of Cape Town, which has a Mediterranean climate characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The country's interior is generally temperate, with warm and hazy summers in the northeast, where Johannesburg and Kruger Park are located. The northeast is a subtropical region with warm winters, chilly mornings, and hot afternoons. Because the animals enjoy these temperatures, this is the optimum period to observe the game.

Even in the winter, South Africa has a warm and inviting atmosphere. South Africa's seasons also differ from those in the United States because it is located in the southern hemisphere. This means that October, November, and December are ideal for basking in South Africa's pleasant summer heat.

Excellent Cuisines

No matter what your preferences are, you will find an array of excellent restaurants serving all types of cuisines in South Africa. The country's culinary scene has something for everyone, from traditional African dishes to European fare. You can also find several fusion restaurants that blend the best of both worlds.

On a South Africa tour, you’ll have the chance to visit stunning manor homes, try award-winning wines in chilly cellars and vine-covered patios, and taste some of the world's best cuisine at some amazing eateries. On the east coast, you can enjoy a fine dining experience in the green hills of KwaZulu-Natal's Midland Valleys before setting out on a hike.

The Most Beautiful Beaches in the World

Cape Town boasts some of the world's best urban beaches, from fashionable Camps Bay near the city center to Boulders Beach with its amusing colony of endangered African penguins that waddle about. With 3,000 miles of coastline by the Atlantic and Indian oceans, South Africa has no shortage of beaches for relaxation on your South Africa tour package.

Durban's Golden Mile, for example, is a string of sparkling beaches that offer a wide range of activities, such as swimming, sunbathing, fishing, and surfing. With the warm Indian Ocean, Durban is also a great place for scuba diving and snorkeling. If you want to explore the coastline away from the crowds, take a drive along the Garden Route, where you will find several secluded bays and coves.

A Vibrant Culture

South Africa is a melting pot of cultures, with influences from Europe, Asia, and Africa. This diversity is evident in the country's cuisine, music, and art. You will find several world-renowned museums, such as the South African National Museum in Cape Town, which houses over 1.5 million artifacts that tell the story of the country and its people.

Johannesburg is home to some excellent art galleries, such as the Goodman Gallery, which represents leading contemporary artists from South Africa and the rest of Africa. If you want to experience the country's vibrant nightlife, pay a visit to Long Street in Cape Town, where you will find bars and clubs that stay open until the early hours of the morning. This is an amazing addition to a list of things to do on South Africa group tours.

A Variety of Things to Do

Whether you're interested in safaris, exploring historical sites, or enjoying the nightlife, South Africa has something for everyone. South Africa boasts many world-renowned attractions, such as Table Mountain, Kruger National Park, and Cape Town's vibrant city center. You can also find several activities to keep you busy, such as golfing, hiking, wine tasting, and sightseeing at the magnificent Victoria Falls.

South Africa is an ideal destination for those who love the outdoors, as there are several national parks and nature reserves to explore. For history buffs, the country is also home to some important historical sites, such as Robben Island and the Castle of Good Hope. And, of course, no trip to South Africa would be complete without a visit to one of its many world-class beaches.

Fantastic Infrastructure

South Africa is a developed country with a well-maintained infrastructure. The country's roads are in good condition, and you will find airports and seaports throughout the country. This makes it easy to get around, whether you're traveling by cable car, plane, or boat. You are also assured of a comfortable stay, as there is a wide range of accommodation options to choose from, ranging from luxury hotels to more affordable bed and breakfasts that cater to everyone. Especially for a South Africa group tour, the entire experience is designed to give everyone the best regarding budget and comfort.

How many days are enough in South Africa?

This is a difficult question to answer as it depends on your interests and how much time you have available. However, we would recommend spending at least two weeks in the country to get a taste of what it has to offer. If you're interested in going on safari, then we would recommend spending at least ten days in South Africa. This is because depending on where you're coming from, spending less than a week in South Africa might be difficult. For example, the culmination of the flight time may take numerous days to complete, making such a short journey unfeasible for many people.

Most people recommend staying in South Africa for ten days to two weeks; in this timeframe, you can see the country effectively, fall in love with the breathtaking scenery and polyglot cultures, and squeeze in some longer road trips and bush walks between other fun activities like safaris and wine tasting.

During a two-week tour, for example, you will be able to visit the most popular attractions in South Africa, such as Kruger National Park, Table Mountain, and Cape Town. You will also have enough time to explore some of the smaller towns and villages in the country. This will give you a more authentic experience of what it's like to live in South Africa.

You should also set aside some time to visit the country's finest seaside towns and other South African holiday destinations, such as the Garden Route. Another wonderful option is Jeffrey's Bay, a haven for those who love the outdoors. The town itself has an incredible selection of shops, where you can find branded clothing at prices lower than those at major stores. This will ensure that you have a well-rounded experience including all that South Africa has to offer.

Finally, if you want to explore as much of African culture as possible and go beyond the boundaries of South Africa, plan for a longer vacation. In that case, you may also include a trip to some amazing scenes in neighboring nations within the time of your visit such as Namibia, Chobe National Park in Botswana, and Zimbabwe. These are all close by and provide plenty of magnificent attractions, including the massive Victoria Falls.

When is the best time to visit South Africa?

The best time to visit South Africa depends on your interests. If you're interested in going on safari, then we would recommend visiting between May and September when the weather is cooler. However, if you're more interested in spending time at the beach, then the best time to visit would be between November and February when the weather is warm.

No matter what time of year you choose to visit South Africa, you're sure to have an incredible experience. The country has so much to offer, and you're sure to find something that interests you no matter when you visit.

How much does it cost to tour South Africa?

The cost of touring South Africa varies depending on your interests and how long you plan to stay in the country. However, we would recommend setting aside at least $2000 for a two-week trip. This will cover the cost of accommodation, food, transportation, and activities.

The average daily cost of a vacation in South Africa is R1,320 ($78), which is the amount you should budget for each day of your holiday. On a typical day, past travelers spent R305 ($18) on food and R230 ($14) on local transportation. Furthermore, the average hotel cost in South Africa for a couple is R1,399 ($83). Therefore, a weeklong holiday in South Africa for two people costs an average of R18,479 ($1,098).

Keep in mind that these average travel costs were obtained from previous travelers to assist you in budgeting your trip. Based on their feedback, accommodation and food costs in South Africa are higher than in other countries in Southern Africa. However, transportation costs are relatively low, which makes touring the country affordable.

Is it safe to go on vacation to South Africa?

While it is safe to go on vacation to South Africa, especially on escorted tours to South Africa, we recommend a few safety tips to guarantee your safety during your time there.  For example, we recommend staying in well-lit and populated areas, avoiding isolated areas, and being aware of your surroundings at all times. Additionally, it is always a good idea to travel with a partner or in a group.

Always Look out for Underrated Art and Culture in South Africa

South Africa is a multicultural country with 11 official languages and numerous landscapes and temperatures. Don't limit yourself to a few sights! Robben Island, the Apartheid Museum, and the Zeitz MoCAA are some of the most notable sites and museums you should not miss out on, but that isn’t all there is to offer.

While on your escorted tour to South Africa, you should also visit the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens and take a cable car to the top of Table Mountain. Nature lovers rejoice in South Africa! Be sure to add these spots to your itinerary.

Furthermore, don't miss the lesser-known galleries and museums that support up-and-coming artists. Johannesburg and Cape Town both have a myriad of fantastic places such as the Norval Foundation, Gallery MOMO, Southern Guild, Goodman Gallery, and Michael Stevenson. The wide array of talent will astound you, and if you're lucky, you might go home with a new piece for your collection.

When it comes to culture in South Africa, there is so much to explore. A good South Africa tour package from Indus Travel helps you see it all. From the food to the music and dance, you'll be spoilt for choice. Traditional dishes such as potjiekos (a type of stew cooked in a cast-iron pot) and sosaties (spicy meat skewers) are a must-try, and you can wash it all down with some of the local wine. As for music, don't leave without listening to some traditional South African music such as isicathamiya and mbaqanga. And last but not least, watch a show at one of the many theatre companies or watch a film at one of the many festivals that take place throughout the year.

Overall, South Africa is a country with much to offer. It is full of culture and has something for everyone. Whether you're looking to relax on the beach, explore nature, or immerse yourself in the local arts scene, you'll find what you're looking for in South Africa. So, what are you waiting for? Start planning your trip today!

Picturesque Solo South Africa Tour
I booked a trip with Indus to South Africa and had a fabulous time! It was easy to book the trip online and any questions I had were answered very quickly by Sabine. The hotels we stayed at were very nice and in good locations. Our tours were well organized and our safari in Kruger National park was definitely a highlight. A few mornings had a bright and early start, but this allowed us to accomplish quite a lot in a day. The hotel restaurants had decent food, which was convenient if we had a longer day and didn't want to go out to eat. Overall, I was very happy with the trip and I felt the price for my tour was excellent value. I would definitely use Indus again!

The trip was absolutely breathtaking. Highly recommend is the day trip to Botswana it made our whole honeymoon worth it as it rained in Kruger and they had to cut the excursion short (we didn’t get to see any animals). All in all it was great lodging and a number of excursions to pick from. Only recommendation is to fly from Johannesburg to Kruger & back due to the long travel time on the bus. Also at the start of the trip to fly straight into Zimbabwe as there was no time in Johannesburg.

We were treated to an experience of a lifetime and it truly was that. Our tour guides were the best you could possibly ask for. They were professional every step of the way. They were always there to help us from primate safaris in Rwanda to Ranger safaris from Arusha and was all set up by Indus travel. We are also very greatful to have had Naomi. She made sure we had all the info we needed and she was prompt and on time. Our trip went off with no problems and for that to happen all the right people were there because there was a lot happening in a short time. Thank you Indus for being there and supporting us it truly was a grand experience. CHEERS from the Timmers group.

Our visit to South Africa arranged through Indus Travel was wonderful and more than we had imagined. Indus Travel agents incorporated our requests for places to visit etc. with two of their own tours. They arranged for very polite, knowledgeable driver/tour guides for all our outings, for drivers meeting us at the airports and taking us to and from our hotels, for choosing very nice hotels and for convenient internal flights. We always felt safe without feeling overly chaperoned. Thank you Indus Travel, we will use you again and recommend you to our friends.
