DAY 2 - BOGOTA (B/-/-)

Today, after breakfast, you will go on a guided tour that will take you on a journey through time from Bogota's colonial era to modern-day urban life. Starting at the buzzing and colorful Paloquemao market, where we can see and savor Colombia's huge array of fruits and vegetables before the backdrop of Colombian everyday life. Then we seek higher grounds with an exhilarating cable car ride to Monserrate Hill, which offers spectacular views of the nine- million-metropolis and the surrounding high plains. Then, through the grand Plaza de Bolivar and the surrounding government buildings, we continue to La Candelaria, the historic quarter, and to Bogota's oldest church, the Iglesia de San Francisco. Our tour finishes at the world-famous Gold Museum. We go back in time even more, admiring over 30,000 exhibits of pre-Columbian gold artifacts (closed on Mondays).
* Attention: On Sundays, Monserrate is very busy, and there might be long queues. Alternatively, the guide will take you by private transport to the mountain Guadalupe, at 3.300 m, or to the Calera, where you get to enjoy the view of Bogota. The order of the visits might change.
Overnight in Bogota

DAY 3 - BOGOTA – MEDELLIN (BY FLIGHT) (B/-/-)

Have a delicious breakfast, and at the arranged time, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Medellin. Upon arrival in Medellin, after check-in, you will go out for a half-day tour. A little more than 20 years ago, Medellin was one of the most dangerous cities in the world. In the early nineties the hunt on drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, the head of the Medellin Cartel, reached its peak. Shot dead on a roof by special operation forces, the reign of “El Patrón” came to its end. Until the turn of the millennium, the struggles with Escobar's successor continued, and from 2002, Medellin gradually began to change for the better. Smart local politicians successfully started to invest heavily in infrastructure and public education. Today, the “City of Eternal Spring” is considered one of the most innovative metropolises in the world. We embark on a fascinating tour to settings of Medellin's past and present and learn about the transformation of a moloch once doomed to a city now deemed with the most innovative transportation system in the country. You will visit the center and the neighborhood of "Comuna 13" with its unique escalator. You will also learn about the impact of the neighborhood on the population and what they think about the history of the city of Medellín.
Overnight in Medellin

DAY 4 - MEDELLIN – GUATAPE – MEDELLIN (B/-/-)

Once you have had breakfast, you will embark on a full-day tour around the Guatape! The Peñol Rock is one of the most spectacular destinations in the surroundings of Medellin. The 200-meter-high monolith can be climbed via a staircase of 740 steps. Breathtaking views over the stunning Guatape reservoir, over green mountains and blue water, make up for the climb. The nearby village of Guatape is small and peaceful, with a pleasantly warm and mild climate. It is famous for its church and colorfully painted and decorated houses. Our trip here involves a scenic drive out of Medellin and into the picturesque highlands of the department of Antioquia. We can climb the Peñol rock and enjoy a delicious Colombian lunch on the waterfront of the Guatapé reservoir afterward. In the afternoon, there is time to explore the water reservoir on a boat ride, to stroll around, and to relax.
Overnight in Medellin

DAY 5 - MEDELLIN – CARTAGENA (BY FLIGHT) (B/-/-)

Enjoy your breakfast, and later, you will be transferred to Medellin Airport for your flight to Cartagena. Upon arrival in Cartagena, you will be transferred to your hotel for check-in. From there, you will head on a city tour. You start your fascinating half-day tour to the sights of Cartagena at the convent of La Popa (the highest point of the city – around 140 m high) and the Fort of San Felipe de Barajas, the biggest military construction ever built by the Spanish in their colonies. During the visit of approx. one hour, we can appreciate this masterpiece of military architecture in coral stone and get a good idea about the defense strategy of the city in front of pirate attacks in the 17th and 18th centuries. Afterward, we headed to the historical center and walked for two hours to the most beautiful squares, churches, and streets. The eclectic mix of colonial architecture, gastronomy, and culture make Cartagena deserve the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site and an unforgettable destination.
Overnight in Cartagena

DAY 6 - CARTAGENA (B/L/-)

Post breakfast, you may enjoy a full-day tour of Isla San Pedro de Manjagua. At 08:30 am, you depart from the peer "Muelle de la Bodeguita" by speedboat and head to the Rosario Islands. Your destination, the picture-perfect Caribbean island of Isla Grande is blessed with clear waters, white sandy beaches, and palm trees. Upon arrival at the island, you are greeted with a delicious fruit cocktail. Today's program is to relax, soak in that Caribbean sun, and enjoy the activities offered on the island (not included), like snorkeling. Your stay on the island includes a typical lunch featuring coconut rice and fish and a dessert. In the afternoon, we return to Cartagena. The tour is shared with other travelers (SIB) and includes a bilingual guide. Costs for additional activities on the island are not included.

*Note: Please be present at Muelle de la Bodeguita at 08:00, the boat departs at 08:30 am.
