Once the most advanced observatory in the East, it was here that Ulugbek and his team conducted groundbreaking astronomical research, later compiled into the renowned Zij-i Guragani star catalog. Today, visitors can still see the impressive underground portion of the massive sextant and the foundations of this historic site. Continue to the Mausoleum of Khoja Daniyar, one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in Samarkand. Revered by Muslims, Christians, and Jews alike, the site is believed by many to be the resting place of the biblical Prophet Daniel. The tranquil setting and spiritual significance of this site offer a moment of reflection amid your journey.

Next, enjoy a fascinating visit to the Khujum Silk Carpet Factory, where you’ll witness the meticulous, centuries-old process of handmade carpet weaving. Just across the square stands the imposing Ark Fortress, an ancient citadel that functioned as a royal residence, housing everything from the emir’s court and treasury to the harem and prison. From above, its outline resembles the Big Dipper constellation—a celestial nod that locals love to share.

I went alone and so it was the perfect ratio of “me time” and new friendships because of the Picturesque Solo Italy Tour. I traveled with a group of solo travelers. Venice was epic. I’d strolled through canals in the early morning before the crowds came in and watching the glass-blowers on Murano felt like being let in on a centuries-old secret. Florence absolutely stole my heart. I had chills the first time I saw Michelangelo’s David in person. But Rome was the piece de resistance — Colosseum, Vatican, Trevi Fountain… every corner seemed like a movie set. Solo travel but with a room of my own (without having to pay extra!) was such a perk. And with that group vibe came a sense of fun and encouragement. we laughed, ate together and even got lost on a few side streets together. For anyone anxious about solo travel, the tour makes it feel easy and Indus Travels takes well care of all the arrangements. Close your eyes and just go ahead with booking your next tour with them!
