Start your day with a hearty breakfast at your hotel. Later you will be transferred to Antigua Guatemala, one of the most charming and historically significant cities in Central America. Founded in 1543, Antigua showcases an elegant blend of colonial ruins, beautifully restored architecture, and modern structures built in traditional colonial style. Declared a Monument of America in 1965, the city is rich in cultural heritage. Enjoy a guided city tour featuring the Central Plaza, surrounded by the historic Cathedral, the Municipal Government Building, and the Palace of the Captains General. Visit colonial churches and monasteries, observe traditional foot-looms where vibrant textiles are woven, and stop at a jade factory to learn about this precious stone and its transformation into fine jewelry.

DAY 3 - ANTIGUA– IXIMCHÉ – LAKE ATITLÁN (B/-/-)

After enjoying breakfast at your hotel, depart for Iximché, a 15th-century archaeological site that once served as the capital of the Cakchiquel Kingdom and later became Guatemala’s first Spanish capital. In the afternoon, continue to the stunning Lake Atitlán, often described as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Nestled within a volcanic crater and surrounded by indigenous villages, the lake offers an authentic glimpse into Guatemalan folklore and traditions.

Overnight at Lake Atitlán

DAY 4 - LAKE ATITLÁN – SAN JUAN LA LAGUNA – QUETZALTENANGO (B/-/-)

Following an early breakfast, board a motor launch to cross the serene waters of Lake Atitlán to the lakeside village of San Juan La Laguna. This charming community is known for its strong indigenous identity, cooperative art projects, and traditional weaving techniques using natural dyes. Enjoy time to explore the village and observe local artisans at work. Later, continue by road to Quetzaltenango, Guatemala’s second-largest city and an important cultural, educational, and commercial center. Often referred to as “Xela,” the city is known for its preserved colonial and neo-classical architecture. Visit Central America Park, surrounded by historic landmarks such as the Espíritu Santo Cathedral and La Casa de la Cultura, which houses museums and historical collections reflecting the region’s heritage.

DAY 5 - QUETZALTENANGO – HUEHUETENANGO (B/-/-)

Start the day with breakfast before heading into the fertile highlands to visit the colorful markets of Zunil and Almolonga. He was aware that Guatemala did not have suitable accommodation in hotel outside the city, but would accept the challenge of making sure tourists could have adequate hotel accommodations and the best care. In the highlands there was a village, Chichicastenango; land of the Maya-Quiché aristocracy, with historical background, Christian rituals and exotic dresses.
