Welcome to Windhoek! Upon arrival at the international airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in the city. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax after your journey or begin exploring the capital of Namibia at your own pace. Windhoek is a cosmopolitan city that blends European architecture with African culture and offers a variety of cafés, restaurants and local craft markets. You may choose to stroll through the city centre, visit nearby attractions, or simply relax at the hotel.
Overnight in Windhoek

DAY 4 - WINDHOEK - KALAHARI DESERT (B/-/-)

Today after breakfast, you’ll depart Windhoek and travel into the vast Kalahari Desert, the largest continuous sand mass on Earth. This immense semi-desert stretches across nine African countries and is formed by wind-blown sand held together by a sparse cover of thorn scrub. Unlike true deserts, the Kalahari does receive irregular rainfall, which allows certain forms of life to survive in this otherwise harsh environment. For this reason, it is often referred to as a “thirstland.” Without permanent surface water, the region presents challenging living conditions, yet both wildlife and local communities have adapted remarkably well to survive and even flourish here. The Bushmen refer to this region as the “Soul of the World,” reflecting its deep cultural and natural significance. The landscape is defined by deep red sand dunes, open grass plains, and scattered acacia trees and shrubs, all contributing to its distinctive character. A surprising variety of specially adapted wildlife can also be found in this environment. Upon arrival, the remainder of the day is at leisure.
Overnight in Kalahari Region

DAY 5 - KALAHARI - FISH RIVER CANYON (B/-/-)

Following breakfast, continue your journey travelling south through extensive arid plains and rugged rocky terrain. The route takes you across wide open landscapes that highlight the stark beauty of southern Namibia. Along the way, you will visit the unique Garas Quiver Tree Forest, where quiver trees and aloes grow among large dolerite boulders. These boulders are naturally stacked in unusual formations, creating a landscape known as the “Giant’s Playground.” The arrangement of rocks gives the impression of a mysterious and timeless setting, enhanced by the contrast between the natural surroundings and sculptural forms. This area is both visually striking and geologically fascinating. After your visit, continue towards your lodge located near the Fish River Canyon. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Overnight near Fish River Canyon

DAY 6 - FISH RIVER CANYON - LUDERITZ (B/-/-)

Begin your day with breakfast before visiting the edge of the Fish River Canyon, situated in the northern part of the Nama Karoo. This remarkable geological formation is the second largest canyon in the world, stretching approximately 160 kilometres in length, up to 27 kilometres in width and reaching depths of nearly 550 metres. The Fish River, Namibia’s longest interior river, flows through this vast ravine. Although its current flow is limited, it once carried immense volumes of water that shaped the canyon over time. After taking in the views, continue your journey past the Naute Dam as you make your way towards the coastal town of Lüderitz. En route, you will stop at Garub, a viewing point known for the wild horses of the Namib Desert, which have adapted to survive in this harsh environment. Arrive in Lüderitz and settle into your accommodation for the evening.
Overnight in Luderitz

DAY 7 - LUDERITZ - NAMIB DESERT (B/-/-)

After breakfast, explore Kolmanskop, a deserted diamond mining town located within the Sperrgebiet National Park. Once a prosperous and opulent settlement during the diamond boom, it was built to last until the diamonds were depleted. Today, it stands abandoned, with sand gradually reclaiming the buildings and interiors. This ghost town now serves as a haunting reminder of its once-thriving past, offering insight into a bygone era. After your visit, continue your journey across vast open plains, travelling through remote landscapes and along the Tiras Mountain range. Proceed towards your lodge in the Namib Desert, located near Sesriem, which serves as the gateway to Sossusvlei, Deadvlei and Sesriem Canyon. This region is known for having some of the highest sand dunes on Earth rising above the white desert plains. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Overnight in Namib Desert

DAY 8 - NAMIB DESERT (B/-/-)

Rise early and enjoy breakfast before entering the Namib-Naukluft National Park at sunrise. As the first light appears, the dunes take on striking shades of apricot, red and orange, set against a clear blue sky, creating a vivid contrast that enhances the beauty of this desert landscape. The changing light conditions provide a unique perspective of the mountains of sand, making the scenery especially captivating. Visit Sossusvlei, where the dry Tsauchab River ends abruptly among towering dunes, forming a dramatic and distinctive environment. You will also explore Deadvlei, a surreal white clay pan surrounded by some of the highest dunes on Earth, where ancient, lifeless trees stand in stark contrast to the surrounding sand formations. This area highlights the raw and untouched character of the desert. You will also visit Sesriem Canyon, a natural formation shaped over time through water erosion. This canyon has historically served as an important water source within the Namib Desert, sustaining both wildlife and early travellers.
Overnight in Namib Desert

DAY 9 - NAMIB DESERT - SWAKOPMUND (B/-/-)

Travel onwards after breakfast, passing the small settlement of Solitaire, located on the edge of the Namib-Naukluft National Park. This remote stopover gives the impression of being far removed from civilisation, surrounded by open and desolate landscapes. Continue your journey through the Kuiseb Valley, characterised by rolling hills and stark desert terrain, as you make your way towards the Atlantic Ocean. The route showcases the transition from inland desert landscapes to coastal environments. Upon reaching Walvis Bay, visit the shallow lagoon, one of the most important wetland areas on the African continent and recognised as a RAMSAR site. A significant proportion of African flamingos feed in this lagoon, often gathering in large groups and creating a striking visual display. This wetland ecosystem supports a variety of birdlife, making it an important ecological area. Continue along the scenic route between the dune belt and the Atlantic Ocean before arriving in Swakopmund. The town is known for its palm-lined streets, seaside promenades and long stretches of beach.
Overnight in Swakopmund

DAY 10 - SWAKOPMUND (B/-/-)

Enjoy breakfast before exploring Swakopmund, a coastal town often referred to as the “playground of Namibia.” The town offers a wide variety of experiences, ranging from exploring the surrounding desert landscapes to enjoying the coastal environment. Swakopmund is known for its relaxed pace and welcoming atmosphere, where visitors can take time to enjoy cafés and local surroundings. The town features palm-lined streets, historic buildings, museums and shopping arcades, all contributing to its distinctive character. Its location between the desert and the ocean creates a unique setting not commonly found elsewhere. With its pleasant climate and long, sandy beaches, Swakopmund attracts visitors from across southern Africa. The town also reflects a vibrant and colourful lifestyle, shaped by both its natural surroundings and cultural influences. You may explore the area at your own pace or simply enjoy the laid-back coastal atmosphere.
Overnight in Swakopmund

DAY 11 - SWAKOPMUND – WINDHOEK – USA/CANADA (B/-/-)

After breakfast, you will travel back to Windhoek, where you will be transferred to the international airport for your onward journey.
