DAY 1 - PARO (ARRIVAL) – THIMPHU (-/-/D)

Welcome to Bhutan! Upon arrival in Paro, After completing immigration formalities and collecting your baggage, you will be met by our representative, who will assist you before you proceed on a scenic drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. En route, visit Simtokha Dzong, one of the kingdom’s oldest fortresses, now housing the School of Religious and Cultural Studies. Upon arrival in Thimphu, visit the National Memorial Chorten, a revered landmark completed in 1974. Later, check in to your hotel. Thimphu, the political, religious, and commercial heart of Bhutan, presents a unique blend of modern development and ancient traditions. With a population of around 90,000, it is often regarded as the world’s only capital city without traffic lights. In the evening, enjoy an exploratory walk along Thimphu Main Street and the local market area, including a visit to the Local Crafts Bazaar, where you can browse traditional Bhutanese handicrafts such as hand-woven textiles, Thangka paintings, masks, ceramics, wood and slate carvings, jewellery, and other locally crafted items.
Overnight in Thimphu

DAY 2 - THIMPHU (B/-/D)

After breakfast, visit Buddha Point (Kuensel Phodrang), located a short drive from Thimphu city centre, where the country’s largest Buddha statue stands and offers stunning panoramic views of the Thimphu Valley, allowing time for prayers and a leisurely walk around the site. Continue to Changangkha Lhakhang, a fortress-like 12th-century temple and monastic school perched on a ridge above the city, founded by Lama Phajo Drugom Shigpo, and home to an 11-headed manifestation of Chenrezig, with beautiful views from its courtyard. After lunch, proceed to the Bhutan Post Office, showcasing Bhutan’s renowned postal heritage since its establishment in 1962. In the late afternoon, visit Trashichhoedzong, an impressive fortress-monastery that houses the Secretariat building, the throne room of His Majesty the King, various government offices, and serves as the summer residence of the Chief Abbot and the central monk body.
Overnight in Thimphu

DAY 3 - THIMPHU — PUNAKHA (B/-/D)

After breakfast in the hotel, drive to Punakha via the scenic Dochula Pass (3,088 m / 10,130 ft), a beautiful mountain pass in the snow-clad Himalayas on the Thimphu–Punakha route. The pass is renowned for the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens, built by Her Majesty Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, the eldest Queen Mother of Bhutan. Near Dochula Pass, admire the chortens, mani walls and colourful prayer flags set against breathtaking Himalayan views, and enjoy the opportunity to hoist prayer flags—believed to spread prayers and blessings with every movement of the wind. Continue your journey to Punakha and, upon arrival, check in to your hotel. In the afternoon, visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong (Palace of Great Happiness), built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. Once the religious and administrative centre of Bhutan, this majestic fortress measures approximately 600 by 240 feet and features a six-storey tower crowned with a golden dome. Later, visit the nearby Suspension Bridge, a fun and memorable experience as you cross the gently swaying, prayer-flag-draped walkway over the Po Chhu River.
Overnight in Punakha

DAY 4 - PUNAKHA — PARO (B/-/D)

After completing your breakfast, set out for a short walking excursion to Chimi Lhakhang, beginning with a brief drive of about 15 minutes to the motorable road, followed by a scenic walk through paddy fields and villages, totaling approximately 1½ hours round trip. Perched on a small hill in the heart of the valley, Chimi Lhakhang—also known as the Temple of Fertility—is revered for its belief that couples seeking children are blessed through prayers offered here. The trail passes through rice fields to the small settlement of Pana, meaning “field,” and a walk around the village near the temple offers rare insights into the daily life and traditions of the local community. Thereafter, continue the drive to Paro along a picturesque highway, with an en route visit to Simtokha Dzong, the country’s oldest fortress built in 1627 and now home to the School for Buddhist Studies. Upon arrival in Paro, check in to your hotel and, after lunch, visit Ta Dzong, originally constructed as a watchtower and now housing the National Museum, showcasing an extensive collection of antique thangkas, textiles, weapons, armour, household objects, and natural and historical artefacts. This is followed by a short walk down to Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong), the “Fortress of the Heap of Jewels,” renowned for its rich history and beautifully preserved wall paintings depicting Buddhist lore, including the Wheel of Life, the Four Friends, the Old Man of Long Life, scenes from the life of Milarepa, Mount Sumeru, and other cosmic mandalas.
Overnight in Paro

DAY 5 - PARO (B/-/D)

After a healthy breakfast at the hotel, embark on an excursion to Taktshang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), a scenic trek of approximately five hours to one of Bhutan’s most iconic and sacred sites, dramatically perched on a cliff 900 metres above the Paro Valley. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche flew to this spot on the back of a tigress and meditated here, giving the monastery its name. Revered by Bhutanese as a place of deep spiritual significance, it was visited by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646 and is considered a must-visit pilgrimage site in a Bhutanese lifetime. Although a fire in April 1998 caused extensive damage, the monastery has since been meticulously restored to its former glory. In the afternoon, drive to Drukgyel Dzong, a historic ruined fortress where Bhutanese warriors once defended the country against Tibetan invasions, with magnificent views of the sacred snow-capped Mount Chomolhari, known as the “Mountain of the Goddess.” In the evening, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, a revered 7th-century temple and one of the 108 monasteries built by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo, marking the introduction of Buddhism in Bhutan.
Overnight in Paro

Mystical Bhutan
To be fair, our Mystical Bhutan tour was the most serene and insightful trip my husband and I have taken in a really long time. Our children are grown and my husband and I were both looking for something more than the traditional sight-seeing vacation. Be it the scenic monasteries atop hills or the tranquil valleys, everything was beautiful yet unhurried every single day. The Tiger's Nest hike was exhausting, but also incredibly satisfying, and our guide ensured that everyone went at their own speed. The hotels were comfortable, the food was delicious, and the views were nothing short of amazing. Experiencing the true genuineness and calm energy of Bhutan was truly something that came from this tour.
