Overnight Onboard Flight
Welcome to Reykjavik! Upon arrival at Keflavik International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel by the Flybus Shuttle Bus for check-in. Depending on your time of arrival, spend the day at leisure to explore the city at your own pace. Ingolfur Arnarson, the first settler of Iceland, built his farm on the peninsula where Reykjavík stands today. The town earned its name “Smokey Bay” after columns of steam rose from the hot springs and made a deep impression on the first settlers. Reykjavik offers a wide range of restaurants and coffee houses, making dinner a great way to get better acquainted with Iceland’s capital.
Overnight in Reykjavik
Begin your journey with a visit to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site rich in natural beauty and historic significance. This is where the world’s oldest surviving parliament, the Althing, was founded in 930 AD. Walk among the dramatic fissures and rifts carved by the slow drift of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, most notably the impressive Almannagjá gorge. The volcanic terrain, crystal-clear springs, and historical ruins make Þingvellir a powerful symbol of Iceland’s past and geological uniqueness. From here, set out for the legendary Snæfellsnes Peninsula, often described as “Iceland in Miniature” for its stunning variety of landscapes. Travel beneath towering cliffs and across mossy lava fields, with the mighty Snæfellsjökull Glacier looming on the horizon — a striking, snow-capped stratovolcano said to possess mystical energy. The peninsula’s coastal roads reveal charming fishing villages, black sand beaches, dramatic sea stacks, and hidden coves, all steeped in Icelandic folklore. At Snæfellsjökull National Park, explore a landscape shaped by volcanic craters, glaciated peaks, and ancient lava flows. Channel the spirit of Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth as you descend into the Vatnshellir Lava Cave, a 35-meter-deep tube formed 8,000 years ago. Equipped with helmets and headlamps, venture into the heart of the earth — a subterranean world of winding tunnels, vivid mineral hues, and awe-inspiring silence.
Overnight in Borgarnes
Today begins with a scenic ferry ride from Stykkishólmur to Brjánslækur, crossing the shimmering waters of Breiðafjörður Bay. The 2.5-hour journey offers breathtaking views of countless small islands, including Flatey Island, which comes alive with seasonal life during the summer. On a clear day, enjoy panoramic views of the majestic Snæfellsjökull Glacier rising on the horizon — a serene and unforgettable seascape. Upon arriving in the remote Westfjords, one of Iceland’s most untouched and dramatic regions, you will journey through a rugged landscape of towering mountains and deep coastal fjords. This winding drive leads to Arnarfjörður, one of the most striking fjords in the area, framed by steep, jagged peaks. At the head of the fjord, prepare to be awestruck by the magnificent Dynjandi Waterfall. Often called the "jewel of the Westfjords", Dynjandi cascades down seven tiers like a bridal veil, creating an unforgettable spectacle of sound and mist. Voted by Icelanders as the country’s most beautiful waterfall, it’s a place that stirs the soul and invites quiet reflection.
Overnight in Patreksfjorour
Today’s journey traces the wild coastline of the Westfjords, beginning with a visit to the Folk and Transport Museum in Hnjótur, a charming and insightful stop that sheds light on the resourceful lives of the people who’ve called this remote region home. From there, we continue through rugged, sparsely populated landscapes to one of Iceland’s natural treasures — the Látrabjarg Cliffs. These soaring sea cliffs, stretching over 14 kilometers and rising up to 440 meters high, are the westernmost point of Iceland and Europe. Known as the largest seabird cliff in the North Atlantic, Látrabjarg is a nesting haven for millions of birds, including puffins, razorbills, guillemots, fulmars, and kittiwakes. Puffins are especially abundant and comically fearless, allowing for incredibly close encounters — a delight for photographers and nature lovers alike. The best viewing season is from mid-May to mid-August. If road and weather conditions permit, we then venture toward Rauðisandur, a breathtaking stretch of coast where 10 kilometers of red and golden sand unfold beneath a wide sky. The color of the beach constantly shifts with the light, tides, and weather, creating a surreal palette of yellows, oranges, and deep reds. This tranquil, seldom-visited beach is also home to colonies of seals and seabirds, offering a peaceful contrast to the dramatic cliffs of the morning. Whether you're standing at the edge of a bird-packed precipice or capturing the hues of an ever-changing shoreline, today offers some of the most awe-inspiring natural encounters in all of Iceland.
Overnight in Patreksfjorour
Today, we bid farewell to the dramatic coastlines of the Westfjords and begin our journey eastward, tracing the inland edge of Breiðafjörður Bay. As we travel, the stark, rugged beauty of the fjords slowly gives way to the gentler contours of Northwest Iceland — a region defined by wide valleys, rolling hills, and low mountain passes. The changing landscapes along the route offer a visual feast, with sweeping views of open countryside dotted with sheep farms and clusters of birch trees — a soothing contrast to the towering cliffs and narrow inlets of previous days. Along the way, we stop at Erpsstaðir, a charming, family-run dairy farm nestled in the heart of this rural region. This local gem is best known for its delicious homemade ice cream, crafted from fresh farm milk and featuring seasonal Icelandic flavors. Take a moment to learn about traditional dairy practices, watch the production process in action, and indulge in a tasting of their signature ice cream, cheeses, and other dairy treats — all made on-site with love and local ingredients. It’s a delightful stop that offers not only a taste of Icelandic life but a literal taste of the countryside itself.
Overnight in Hvammstangi
Today’s route veers off the well-trodden path as we explore the remote and rugged Vatnsnes Peninsula, a region rich in natural wonders and folklore. Our journey begins with a pass through Hvammstangi, a quaint fishing village affectionately known as Iceland’s seal capital. From here, a gravel road hugs the coastline, offering sweeping sea views and a chance to spot seals lounging on the shore. One of the day’s highlights is Hvítserkur, a striking 15-meter basalt rock stack rising from the sea like a prehistoric beast. Nesting seabirds such as fulmars and gulls circle above, while legend tells of a troll turned to stone at sunrise, forever frozen in his mission to destroy a nearby monastery. We then head to the hidden gem of Kolugljúfur Canyon, where the gentle flow of the Víðidalsá River plunges into a narrow, dramatic gorge. From the viewing platform, watch the water thunder down a series of cascades — an awe-inspiring display of Iceland’s untamed beauty. Further north, we pause at Víðimýri Turf Church, one of Iceland’s best-preserved examples of traditional ecclesiastical architecture. Built in 1834 with turf walls and timber gables, the church is a rare and atmospheric window into Iceland’s rural past. Our day concludes with a scenic drive over a high mountain pass, descending into Akureyri, the vibrant heart of North Iceland. Nestled by the fjord and ringed by snow-capped peaks, this charming town will be our base for the next two nights.
Overnight in Akureyri
Start your day with a peaceful breakfast amid the lush and colorful botanical gardens of Akureyri, one of the northernmost gardens in the world. From there, head to the harbor for a 2–3 hour whale watching adventure in Eyjafjörður, Iceland’s longest fjord and a prime location for spotting humpbacks, dolphins, and porpoises. As a bonus, try your hand at sea angling toward the end of the excursion — you might just reel in your own fresh catch from Arctic waters! In the afternoon, journey along the dramatic coastlines of Eyjafjörður as you make your way to Siglufjörður, Iceland’s northernmost town, nestled deep within the mountainous Tröllaskagi Peninsula. The drive is a scenic treat, passing remote fishing villages and weaving through a deserted valley so untouched that even many Icelanders have never seen it. Upon arrival in Siglufjörður — once the thriving herring capital of the North Atlantic — step back in time with a visit to the Herring Era Museum, the largest maritime museum in Iceland and a proud recipient of the European Museum Awards. End your visit with a tasting of pickled herring paired with Brennivín, Iceland’s signature schnapps — a flavorful nod to the town’s vibrant fishing heritage.
Overnight in Akureyri
Begin your day at the majestic Goðafoss, the "Waterfall of the Gods", where legend and natural beauty collide in a dramatic cascade. From there, venture to Lake Mývatn, a serene area teeming with birdlife and surrounded by some of Iceland’s most fascinating volcanic formations. Walk through pseudo craters, explore the strange lava labyrinth of Dimmuborgir, and gaze up at Hverfjall, a massive tephra cone crater. You’ll also visit the Námaskarð geothermal area, where boiling mud pots and steaming fumaroles create a truly otherworldly scene. Next, head into Vatnajökull National Park to witness the raw power of Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall. A short 40–60-minute hike brings you up close to this thundering force of nature. The journey continues through a barren, hauntingly beautiful highland landscape, flanked by mountains and marked by silence. As the day winds down, unwind at Vök Baths, a unique geothermal spa where floating pools rest in the pristine waters of Lake Urriðavatn. Soak in the warm, mineral-rich waters while surrounded by the stillness of nature — a perfect end to an unforgettable day in Iceland’s dramatic northeast.
Overnight in Borgarfjorour Eystri
Today is all about discovering the rugged beauty of Iceland’s East Fjords, where dramatic fjords carve into the coastline and tiny fishing villages sit quietly at the end of winding mountain roads. As you journey through this remote and unspoiled region, you’ll be surrounded by steep cliffs, narrow inlets, and charming harbor towns nestled between towering peaks. Your first stop is Petra’s Stone Collection in Stöðvarfjörður, one of Iceland’s most beloved and curious attractions. Petra, a passionate local collector, spent nearly 80 years gathering rocks, minerals, crystals, and zeolites from the East Fjords — creating a private museum that offers a fascinating glimpse into both the natural history of the region and one woman’s extraordinary life’s work. In the afternoon, continue your scenic drive as you begin to spot the shimmering Vatnajökull Glacier, Europe’s largest ice cap, looming across Southeast Iceland. Its vast expanse dominates the horizon — a fitting finale to a day spent immersed in the wild and magical beauty of Iceland’s eastern coast.
Overnight in Hofn
Today you’ll explore the spectacular Vatnajökull National Park, which spans 14% of Iceland and is the second-largest national park in Europe. The adventure begins with a boat ride among the luminous icebergs of Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon — an unforgettable experience and one of the top highlights of any Iceland journey. Just across the road, stroll along the shimmering Diamond Beach, where chunks of glacial ice glisten like jewels on the black volcanic sand. Continue to Skaftafell, a breathtaking area at the base of Hvannadalshnúkur, Iceland’s tallest peak and Europe’s second-highest stratovolcano. You’ll walk close to one of the many glacial tongues stretching down from Vatnajökull, offering incredible photo opportunities. As the day winds down, cross the surreal black sand plains before arriving at Reynisfjara, the iconic Black Sand Beach famed for its towering basalt columns, crashing waves, and mysterious sea stacks. It’s the perfect finale to a day filled with natural marvels.
Overnight in Vik
Today’s journey takes you along Iceland’s awe-inspiring South Coast, framed by glaciers, rugged cliffs, and roaring waterfalls. Begin with a visit to Skógafoss, one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls, where mist and sunlight often create magical rainbows against the thunderous cascade. Continue to the elegant Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where a slippery trail leads you behind the waterfall’s curtain — an unforgettable experience, so pack a raincoat and sturdy boots! Next, explore Iceland’s fiery heart at the Lava & Volcano Exhibition Centre, where you’ll watch a captivating documentary showcasing recent eruptions and delve into the island’s powerful geological forces. The adventure continues as we drive the Golden Circle, Iceland’s most famous sightseeing route. First stop: Friðheimar Greenhouse, where you’ll learn how tomatoes thrive year-round thanks to geothermal energy, followed by a chance to meet the friendly Icelandic horses and snap a selfie with these unique and hardy companions. Stand in awe at Gullfoss, the magnificent double-tiered “Golden Waterfall,” and explore the bubbling geothermal area of Geysir, where Strokkur reliably erupts every 5–7 minutes, shooting boiling water high into the air. We return to Reykjavík for a farewell dinner at a local restaurant, a perfect way to reflect on your incredible Icelandic adventure.
