Navigate the narrow alleys with your guide as you sample traditional snacks, learn about Japanese cooking ingredients, and perhaps stop at a restaurant to enjoy a fresh seafood breakfast or lunch. Step back in time with a stroll through the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, the only part of the Imperial grounds open to the public. Once part of Edo Castle, the gardens are a tranquil blend of seasonal flowers, manicured lawns, teahouses, and historic guardhouses. Don't miss the Nijubashi Bridge, a photogenic double-arched structure originally built in wood and later reinforced with steel. (Please note: the East Gardens are closed on Mondays and Fridays.) Your final stop is Senso-ji, Tokyo’s oldest and most revered Buddhist temple. Dating back to the 7th century, the temple welcomes you with the imposing Kaminarimon Gate, adorned with a massive red lantern. From there, stroll along Nakamise-dori, a 250-meter shopping street packed with stalls selling traditional souvenirs, sweets, and snacks. Highlights of Japan
I had been wanting to do Japan for years, and this tour included all that I was hoping to see: a modern city, some traditional culture, stunning countryside landscapes and quieter towns with more of an authentic feel. My favorite was Senso-ji Temple and the views of Mount Fuji was all so lovely. Another highlight was that I loved Kyoto as it had some amazing temples. It was nice that the itinerary included Takayama and Shirakawa-go too because it really showed a different face of Japan. Experiencing a ryokan with a hot spring public bath was surely not on the list. I felt that the tour was very well-balanced with guided sightseeing, and organized transportation with enough free time to explore on your own.
