Prado Museum Guided tour

Discover Prado Museum and enjoy a guided tour without queues. During the visit, you will see some of the most important artworks from renowned artists such as el Bosco, el Greco, Velazquez and Goya. At the end of the guided visit, you will be able to stay inside the museum as long as you like.

The building that today houses the Prado National Art Museum was designed by the architect Juan de Villanueva in 1785. It was constructed to house the Natural History Cabinet, by orders of King Charles III. However, the building's final purpose - as the new Royal Museum of Paintings and Sculptures - was the decision of the monarch's grandson, King Ferdinand VII, encouraged by his wife Queen Maria Isabel de Braganza. The Prado National Art Museum opened to the public for the first time in November 1819. The Museum's first catalog, published in 1819, included 311 paintings, although at that time its collection comprised just over 1,510 pictures from the various Reales Sitios (Royal Residences). The exceptionally important royal collection, which represents the foundation of the Museum's compilation as we know it today, increased significantly in the 16th century during the time of Charles V and continued to thrive under the succeeding Habsburg and Bourbon Monarchs. It is thanks to them that we can contemplate in the Museum masterpieces such as The Garden of Earthly Delights by Bosch, The Nobleman with his hand on his Chest by El Greco, Las Meninas by Velázquez and The Family of Carlos IV by Goya.

You will sail into the Atlantic Ocean on a search for dolphins, after passing by the iconic monuments of Lisbon. This experience has 9 out of 10 chances to be much more than a boat tour. Finding the dolphins is a magic moment that you'll remember for decades. Lisbon is the European Capital with more sightings and more dolphin and whale diversity. It usually takes 2 hours to visit them but we have an extra hour if needed. It seems long but time will fly, as your host is a dolphin expert with 12 years studying these specific dolphins. He will take you on a learning quest, about how to identify dolphins and whales, learn how they evolved and why are they so special. You will also get insight into the history of the monuments but also about the prehistory that carved the landscape and the oceanographic and atmospheric features that you'll encounter. All expeditions are genuine scientific surveys, our clients are the dolphins and you are our supporters. Our aim is to find dolphins and not take guests on a boat trip. So we might have to change your original plans to fit the sea conditions. If you have a specific route or boat type in mind let us know, we are flexible!

Optional: Downtown Biking Tour from Lisbon to Belem (3H): USD 60, min 2 pax

The Lisbon Bike Tour is a very easy tour since it does not have any climbs, always descending and flat. We will start at the top of Parque Eduardo VII, go through downtown Lisbon and all the way to Belém along the Tagus River. It will last about 4 hours. Halfway through, we make a short stop downtown where we offer you a special and typical drink and another stop in an old café where you try another specialty of Lisbon, this time a pastry. This stop is also a chance for our guests to use the restroom or to have another drink (drinks at this café are not included). These 4 hours for about 10kms mean a slow and panoramic pace. We stop at the interesting spots of our city and tell you about what’s around. It is the best way to get to know Lisbon. We will finish in the Belém area, the other historical area of Lisbon apart from the downtown and related to our Discoverer’s period. In Belém, after we finish, you will be on your own. Within a short walking distance at the end of the bike tour, there are public transportation options available (bus, tram and train) or taxi to return you to your needed area of Lisbon. Except for the taxi, all of the options require a metro card. Our guide will explain you these options as well as suggest places for you to have a snack or lunch and places for you to visit in the afternoon by foot. Belém has fine monuments, some of them Unesco World Heritage sites.
