One of the best ways to truly experience the history and atmosphere of a place is on foot, and this engaging walking tour takes you to the heart of Medieval Rhodes and the remarkable legacy of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem. The tour begins along the Street of the Knights in the Old City, one of the best-preserved medieval streets in the world, where the former residences of the Knights still display their original crests. Founded to care for wounded crusaders, the Order later became a powerful military force that defended Rhodes against repeated Ottoman attacks. Visit the impressive Palace of the Grand Master, also known as the Kastello, the most important landmark of the Knights’ Quarter and a striking example of Gothic architecture. Built on a Byzantine citadel dating back to the 7th century, the palace itself was constructed in the 14th century and is believed to stand near the legendary site of the Colossus of Rhodes. The tour also includes key landmarks such as the Mosque of Suleiman the Magnificent, the Turkish Baths, the Hospital of the Knights, and the Church of Our Lady of the Castle, which has stood watch over the city since the 11th century.
