DAY 1 - INDIANAPOLIS – SAN JOSE (ARRIVAL)

Arrive in time at Indy International Airport to check-in & board your flight to San Jose. San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, is surrounded by evergreen mountains and valleys. After clearing customs, you will be received by our representative and transferred to your hotel.

DAY 2 - SAN JOSE - ARENAL (B/-/-)

Today you will depart San Jose and travel to the Arenal area, passing through the mountains of the Central Valley via the breathtaking landscape of agricultural plantations and cattle farms. Get ready to reach the town of La Fortuna around noon, home to the magical Arenal Volcano. Spend the rest of the day at leisure or book one of our optional tours* (time permitting).

DAY 3 - ARENAL (B/-/-)

Spend a full day at leisure in Arenal among a beautiful unspoiled setting. You may book one of the optional tours*. Perhaps spend half the day hiking in Arenal National Park, relaxing in the natural hot springs throughout the area. Or you may spend the morning or afternoon horseback riding through pastures and rainforests to La Fortuna Waterfall. For extraordinary views of Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal, the Sky Tram gondolas soar smoothly through the rainforest to an observation deck. You can ride the tram down the same route that you ascended or take a fast-paced Sky Trek Zipline tour to the bottom.

Optional: Mistico Hanging Bridges: USD 90, min 2 pax

The Arenal Hanging Bridges is one of the most popular tourist attractions in La Fortuna. It is situated only 4 km (2.5 miles) west of Tabacón within a 250-hectare (618 acres) reserve of primary forest. Visitors who love nature may enjoy 15 bridges stretching from 5 to 100 meters long, with friendly designs built with paving blocks to prevent slipping. The bridges were constructed with aluminum, galvanized steel, and concrete, to ensure maximum security for visitors. They were designed by structural engineers with the most demanding safety margins in the world. You will be guided by a naturalist, who will open the doors to a fascinating and colorful Tropical Rain Forest by explaining the rich natural history of this region. The imposing vistas of the Volcano from the hanging forest bridges make for a truly unforgettable experience.

Enjoy a short boat ride from the Arenal lake dam to the entrance of "La Península", this trail will take you through the forest of the most recent National Park, you will walk with incredible views and enjoy fantastic viewpoints, this trail is special for bird watching and photography. Visit areas that were once destroyed by volcanic activity and are now in the process of regeneration. A walk through the "Camino de Coladas" will take you all the way to experience what were in the past lava flows.

Optional: Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge By Boat Incl. Lunch: USD 95, min 2 pax

The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge and the Rio Frío are biologically humid areas considered to be one of the richest in biological diversity in Costa Rica. Here you may discover a fascinating variety of resident and migratory birds plus three species of monkeys, along with iguanas, sloths, turtles, and caymans. This river is part of the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge — a Ramsar site where you will discover one of the most diverse flora and fauna habitats in Costa Rica. Certain birds are residents in the area, and it is possible to see hundreds of them particularly during the dry season. Some of these are Anhingas or Snakes. It is possible to see little groups of Roseate Spoonbills birds feeding in the surroundings of the river. Wood Storks, the Jabiru, and the largest bird in Central America are very endangered. The Olivaceous Cormorant, which makes its nest in the area, is also the most popular bird in the Caño Negro area.

Optional: Safari float Penas Blancas River: USD 70, min 2 pax

This Safari Float is a fun and relaxing tour. You may enjoy the sights and sounds of the rainforest and experience its peacefulness as we quietly paddle along the Peñas Blancas River. Monkeys, sloths, iguanas, crocodiles, and several tropical birds await us! The starting point will be 30 minutes away from La Fortuna. Here, you will be introduced to the basic techniques to drive the raft down the river, along with safety recommendations. Our professional bilingual guide will share educational and interesting explanations of the plants and animals we encounter on the river. On a few occasions, you will find class 2 or 3 rapids, where you will have to paddle and follow the guide’s commands to make it through the revolving water. The river is pretty flat, so these short and not so tricky rapids spice the journey just enough to make it entertaining and fun. You will appreciate this Safari Float and admire the wonders of the river and the surrounding rainforest as we travel down the river without a motor. You will enjoy the trip as you paddle and take photos. This half-day tour was specifically designed for travelers with limited time. Make sure to bring your camera and binoculars!

DAY 4 - ARENAL - MONTEVERDE (B/-/-)

Continue your journey to Monteverde. The transfer will be first by bus and then by boat crossing Lake Arenal. Arrive in Monteverde around noon. In Monteverde, you will have free time to explore. We recommend you visit the breathtaking Cloud Forest which boasts an extraordinarily diverse ecosystem, home to 120 species of reptiles and amphibians, 130 species of mammals, and an astounding 500 species of birds — not to mention more than 3,000 species of plants. You may choose to book one of our optional tours* (time permitting).

Overnight in Monteverde

Optional: Horseback Riding Tour In Monteverde: USD 87, min 2 pax

On this tour you can enjoy a spectacular experience. Riding through Mountain trails and open areas within a Private Reserve located very close to the continental divide, where you will appreciate the green of the mountains of the Monteverde Area and the majesty of the Arenal Volcano, of course if the weather conditions allow it. In addition, we will have the opportunity to look for wildlife, among which bird species such as toucans, parrots, motmots, hummingbirds, monkeys, peas, coatis and guatusas stand out, among others. This tour lasts approximately 2 and a half hours, but for those with more experience and interest it can be extended a little longer.

This project of a Costa Rican family will mix sugar cane, coffee, and chocolate in a guided tour of approximately two hours. With each of the products the process, you will learn about the history and take the opportunity to taste delicious delicacies. The tour will include a ride in a typical Costa Rican cart, to learn the ways peasants used to transport their crops and learn about the different types of typical traps: manuals, water wheels, and oxen. To end the tour, we will enjoy an exquisite arracache picadillo along with a delicious cup of coffee or water.

Optional: Selvatura Hanging Bridges (self guided): USD 76, min 2 pax

Suspension bridges offer the best way to safely admire the cloud forest canopy. It consists of 3.06 kilometers of trails on which you will find eight bridges of different sizes, ranging between 50 and 170 meters in length. Each bridge has a width of 1.50 meters and a capacity of up to 80 people per bridge, which makes suspension bridges the most resistant in Costa Rica. The bridges can be enjoyed by people of all ages and physical conditions.

Experience three tours in one! The coffee tour: learn about the wonderful history of coffee in the world and its importance in the development of Costa Rica. You will see all the processes that coffee takes, from the seed to the delicious product, the cup of coffee. Then, the chocolate tour: you will have an experience between aromas and history, you will participate in the chocolate process, and you will be able to enjoy and taste the cocoa, until it reaches its magnificent transformation, becoming a delicious drink. The last stage will be the sugar cane, where you will learn about its origin, plantation, processes, and different derived products. You can live the experience of extracting cane juice by hand.

This tour consists of an exhibition of 28 species of frogs and toads unique to Costa Rica. This is the ideal place to meet the famous frogs "Blue Jeans" and "Red Eyes". Terrariums almost perfectly recreate the habitat of each species, which has led to the successful procreation of frogs. The terrariums are under roof, which makes the tour an excellent option for a rainy day.

The Children’s Eternal Rainforest (BEN) is a dream come true and now you can be part of it! It is the biggest private reserve in Costa Rica, and it is part of the Water and Peace Biosphere (“Biosfera Agua y Paz”) from UNESCO, a founding member of the Costa Rican Network of Private Reserves, and also a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Its mission is to maintain, preserve, and rehabilitate the Topical Ecosystems and their Biodiversity, through environmental educational activities, reforestation, investigation, protection and monitoring, and sustainable ecotourism (trails, presentations, hikes, and biological stations). It is situated in the Tilarán Mountain range and has more than 22.000 hectares of primary and secondary forests, as well as regenerating areas. This Reserve has been preserved thanks to the effort of many children and adults, together with schools and other organizations in over forty countries around the world.

The night walk of Kinkajou is the perfect option for those who want to explore the forest and its creatures at night. It also has a wide variety of insects, birds and various amphibians and reptiles. DAY 5 - MONTEVERDE - MANUEL ANTONIO (B/-/-)

Today, you will drive to Manuel Antonio, one of the most popular destinations in Costa Rica due to its beautiful beaches, rich wildlife, and an endless list of activities. You will reach Manuel Antonio around 1:30 PM. Spend the rest of the day relaxing and exploring the National Park and exotic beaches. You may choose one of the optional tours* such as taking a boat through the complex and beautiful estuaries and mangroves surrounding Damas Island. For something different, perhaps visit the local sustainable organic Villa Vanilla Spice Plantation which grows a variety of spices and essential oil plants, including vanilla, cocoa, pepper, and cinnamon.

DAY 6 - MANUEL ANTONIO (B/-/-)

Spend a full day at leisure. You may choose one of the optional tours* we are offering. Embark on a zip-lining canopy tour or horseback riding adventure. Or choose to join an optional afternoon tour to Manuel Antonio National Park with its wealth of wildlife. As an alternative, take a naturalist tour on a catamaran with incredible views of the National Park and its marine life. Head on a snorkeling adventure and watch the beautiful sunset over the Pacific Ocean.

Optional: Savegre River White Water Rafting Incl. Lunch: USD 135, min 2 pax

Savegre Rafting runs from May to February.

With this tour, round trip transportation will be provided. You will be picked up at your hotel to drive 1 hour and 20 minutes to the Savegre River. The road trip to the rafting site offers breathtaking views of African palm plantations, quaint towns, small rivers, and jungles. Your guide will delightfully tell you all about all the attractions you see along the way. Occasional stops with be made for bathroom breaks or photo stops. Upon arriving at the rafting spot, you will have a safety talk and an opportunity to practice before getting into the river. The rafts in this Manuel Antonio tour are built for 6 passengers. Guides will travel in kayaks along your side to make sure you are safe. Savegre River delivers class 3 rapids and is filled with bends and turns of excitement. You will spend approximately 2 ½ hours in the raft taming the rapids, taking occasional stops to rest and admire some of the region’s beautiful flora and fauna. Towards the end of this Manuel Antonio rafting tour, the waters will become calm and easy, allowing you to take a closer look at birds flying overhead and the colorful vegetation. Your drive back to the base camp will be much shorter, about 30 minutes in duration. You may change your clothes and enjoy a delicious homemade meal. This river boasts class 3 rapids all year long, throughout the dry season, and it can provide some class 2 rapids.

Optional: Naranjo River White Water Rafting Incl. Lunch: USD 95, min 2 pax

Tour does not operate from December to May

Round trip transportation will be provided on this tour. You will be picked up at your hotel and drive 40 minutes to Londres, a town where the river put-in is located. During this scenic drive, your guide will talk about the history of the town of Quepos. Once on site - a private property where the put-in is located - you will be ready to start your tour of Manuel Antonio. The property features stables, corrals, ATVs, an open-air waiting area and bathrooms. Your guide will give you safety measures to follow and then… you will be ready to tame the rapids of the Naranjo River. The rafts are built to hold a maximum of 6 passengers. Guides will join you in kayaks to maximize your safety. The Naranjo River flows through mountains, jungle gorges, farmlands, and palm plantations. The river’s course is steep and challenging, perfect for adventure seekers searching for an adrenaline rush. Halfway through the tour, you may take a break to catch your breath and admire the view. Towards the end of the river, the waters will calm down and you may take in the sights while cruising over the last few rapids. After completing this 1 hour and 45-minute Manuel Antonio rafting tour, a tasty lunch - made with fresh local ingredients – will be served. The Naranjo River rafting tour will only be available in the rainy season (May to December). This river delivers class 3 rapids all year long and during the rainy season, it reaches some class 4 rapids.

The Manuel Antonio National Park is closed on Tuesdays.

Transportation will be provided for this tour. You will be picked up at your hotel to begin your ride to the Manuel Antonio National Park. This National Park is one of the most famous in our country due to its wide variety of flora and fauna. The park offers 3 different trails that go from flat to very steep. On this tour, a highly knowledgeable nature guide will walk you through the Manuel Antonio National Park, explaining the mysteries of the rainforest. The trail you take is flat and picturesque and loops through the park making your course about 2 miles long. Throughout your hike your guide will stop and teach you about the park’s natural history, featuring exhaustive descriptions of animals and plants that may be observed throughout the hike. On the way, you can take pictures or admire the view. One of the highlights of this tour is that Manuel Antonio hosts 3 of the 4 existing tropical primates (monkeys) living in Costa Rica. Halfway through the hike, you may enjoy a leisure stop at the world-famous Third Beach. From there you may rest on the beach or play with the waves. This stop will be about 20 minutes long. Throughout the hike, it is common to see sloths, birds, and reptiles as well as admire orchids, butterflies, and tropical trees. Your guides will be equipped with Pentax and Swarovski telescopes, so you may observe wildlife and take pictures from a different perspective. Once the tour is over, transportation will be provided, and you will be taken back to your hotel.

Optional: Catamaran Tour Incl. Lunch - Manuel Antonio: USD 115, min 2 pax

Round trip transportation will be provided. You will be picked up at your hotel and head to the Quepos’s pier. A guide will take you to the loading platform and help you board the catamaran. You will set sail towards the horizon and cruise over sapphire-hued waves. The catamaran will chart a picturesque course departing from Quepos and gliding around the back of the Manuel Antonio National Park. Your guide will point out notable wildlife and vegetation, so make sure to have your camera ready. You will travel by extraordinary scenarios adorned with islands, cliffs, and rock formations. You may admire bird nesting grounds and marine wildlife. Beverages and snacks will be available onboard throughout the trip. After touring the coastline, your captain will set anchor at Biesanz Bay where you may snorkel or rest onboard. The Amphibian Aquatic Garden is a series of waterways and pools ecologically design to provide a wide variety of native species — a habitat where they may reproduce and migrate freely without enclosures restricting their natural behavior. This unique Jungle Walk is a 2 hour-guided adventure where you will have the opportunity to be part of one of the most interesting and important ecosystems of Costa Rica, the Nocturnal Tropical Wet Forest. You will have the experience to be in contact with many nocturnal inhabitants in our Wildlife Refuge, such as Kinkajou (Potos flavus), Armadillo (Cabassous centralis), or take the chance to see one of the most interesting reptiles… Snakes! With more than 30 identified species, you will get the chance to learn about their scientific descriptions, with enough data to know how dangerous they may be and their natural history. Also, you may take the opportunity to visit our Tropical Aquatic Gardens to discover various species of Frogs and Toads. DAY 7 - MANUEL ANTONIO - SAN JOSE (B/-/-)

Today you will be transferred back to San Jose, where you will spend the rest of the day at leisure. You may book one of our optional tours.

This tour will take you to visit the National Theater, also known as “The Jewel of San José”. This artistic and architectural masterpiece was built by Costa Ricans and completed in 1897. From there you will discover the Museum of Gold (an archaeological interest site) and the Central Market, a place full of Costa Rican cultural heritage and traditions, where you may browse through selections and purchase local crafts. You will also visit the Metropolitan Cathedral. As you travel around the city, great ready to spot numerous main and historically significant buildings in the city, such as The Costa Rica University, The Old Train Station, The National Liquor Factory, The National Supreme Election Bureau, the Legislative Assembly (equivalent to The Congress), The Metallic Building, some parks, and various sites of interest. This tour will give you an incredible opportunity to discover San Jose and its economy, culture, politics, religion, and current events. You will also visit an Art Gallery, where you will be able to get some souvenirs to take back home.

IS THIS A CHILD FRIENDLY TOUR? ARE THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS?

All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Minimum age for children on escorted tours is 8. Minimum age on Safaris is 8. Minimum age for game drives in Kruger National Park (South Africa) is 12. Minimum age for Uganda programs is 15.

Please note that many countries have adopted practices to prevent international abductions of children. If a person under the age of 18 years will be travelling with an adult other than his/her parents, or with only one parent, a notarized letter, granting authorization to travel, including the dates of travel should be carried.

I AM A SINGLE TRAVELER. SHOULD I PAY A SINGLE SUPPLEMENT?

How do I book a tour with Indus Travels?

How do I create an Indus Account?

Go to our website and click on the register button found on the upper right hand side to create your Indus Travel account and start booking tours! 

If I don't remember my password, how do I log in?

Click the Forgot Password? link in the login form and it will lead you to a form to change your password. Simply enter your registered email address and you will be emailed a link to reset your password. 

How do I view my invoice?

You will not be able to access your invoice immediately upon booking. You will be notified by email when it is available for you, normally within 48 business hours of booking. You can find your invoice and all other details of the tours you booked by logging on to your account and going to the Tour Booking History page.


PAYMENT PROCEDURE

How do I make payment online?

Simply login to your Indus Travel account, go to your tour of choice and click on Book Now. You will then confirm the details and your preferences about the tour and finally pay through our secure online payment platform. 

What forms of payment does Indus Travel accept?

We accept US & CA Dollar check, bank check, money order, direct deposits, wire transfer, Visa, and Master credit cards. Third-party credit cards are not acceptable. Payments made by wire transfer must include an additional $30 wire transfer fee. There is a $50 fee for returned checks.

Where do I mail a cheque?

Cheque payments should include your Reservation number in the memo section and be made payable to Indus Travels Ltd and mailed to:

When is my final payment due?

Your exact final payment date is indicated on your invoice which may be viewed by signing into your account. In general, the final payment is due 90 days prior to departure with some exceptions where payment is due earlier (All tours including cruise final payment is due 120 days before departure).

How much is my final payment?

The amount of your final payment will be noted on your invoice and can be accessed by logging into your account online.

Can I send a bank cheque or money order?

Yes. Indus accepts US & CA Dollar cheque, bank cheque, money order, direct deposits, wire transfer, Visa & Master credit cards. Third-party credit cards are not acceptable. Payments made by wire transfer must include an additional $30 wire transfer fee. There is a $50 fee for returned cheques.

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

When will I receive my e-Documents?

Once final payment has been received and processed, documents will be sent via email approximately 21 days prior to the beginning of your tour services.

Can I get paper documents?

Paper documents may be sent upon passenger request. There is a shipping and handling fee of $30 for each set of paper documents: These paper documents will be delivered between 14-21 business days prior to the beginning of your tour. In some instances, a paper voucher/ticket is required by our vendor. In these instances, the costs for shipping and handling will be shouldered by Indus Travels.

How do I access and print my documents?

Your documents may be accessed by logging into your Indus Travel account and checking your Tour Booking History. 

Do I receive anything else with my e-documents?

Indus e-document package includes all local contact details, daily itinerary, airline e-ticket information, service vouchers, and travel tips which should be everything you require to go on your trip. 

How do I know where to find my airline ticket?

With a few exceptions, international airline tickets are issued electronically. The airline confirmation number and ticket numbers stated in your documents represent your airline "ticket(s)." Some domestic Arline tickets which can only be issued at destination will be given to you upon your arrival in the local destination.


ENTRY VISAS

If I need one, who is responsible to obtain my visa?

You are responsible for obtaining the proper travel documents for the destinations on your itinerary, including having a passport that is valid for at least 6 months before the date of departure and a visa if required. Please check the Visa section in the Know Before You Go document for the countries you will be visiting. 

Please note: Passengers who are not U.S. or Canadian citizens must check with the respective consulate or a visa agency to determine what personal identification is required. Passengers who enter, leave and then re-enter the same country on their itinerary should check if they require a double-entry visa.

How do I know if I need a visa?

Please check the Before You Book section found on every tour to access the country specific Know Before You Go document to know about Visa and other important information about the countries you will be visiting.

How do I obtain a visa?

A visa may be obtained by using a visa service or by contacting the embassy or consulate of the nation you are visiting prior to departing from your home country.

How much does a visa cost?

There will be different costs that will be specific per embassy/consulate and whether you have used a visa service or not. These costs often change with little notice. We recommend that you contact the appropriate embassy or consulate directly for the most up to date information.

OPTIONAL TOURS & ACTIVITIES

What are optional sightseeing tours?

Optional tours are offered to travelers interested in additional experiences, sightseeing, meals or activities to supplement the included components of our tours. You may choose to participate in some, all or none of the optional tours which are priced individually. Complete descriptions and prices for each optional tour are listed on the itinerary section of the tours on our website. 

When can I add optional tours?

Optional tours are available for purchase any time up to 45 days before departure.

Can I purchase optional tours locally?

Yes. When traveling on an escorted tour, optional tours may be purchased locally from the Tour Manager. However, Indus cannot guarantee the rate and availability of these services when purchased locally. Please note that tours purchased locally are subject to current exchange rates and may cost up to 10% more.

Can I add optional tours for only select individuals on my reservation?

Yes. For assistance on this matter, please contact Indus Travel sales and reservations staff.


TRAVEL INSURANCE & COVERAGE

What coverage does Travel Insurance provide?

When can I purchase Travel Insurance?

American Residents can purchase Trawick Insurance with us at the time of booking or anytime prior to departure. After booking, Canadian Residents will receive an email with a referral to TuGo Insurance which can be purchased anytime prior to departure.

When is Travel Insurance active?

Travel Protection coverages will take effect on the later of 1) the date the plan payment has been received by the Policyholder; 2) the date and time you start your Covered Trip; or 3) 12:01 A.M. Standard Time on the Scheduled Departure Date of your Covered Trip.

I need to cancel my trip and have not purchased insurance, what do I do?

Penalties for cancellation will depend on the tour you have purchased and how close to departure you are at the time of cancellation. For more information, visit our terms and conditions.


INTERNATIONAL AND DOMESTIC FLIGHTS

Why is it important that I give my name as it appears on my passport when booking a tour? 

Due to increased travel security and policies around the world, it is now a requirement that your airline ticket matches your first and last name exactly as it reads on your passport. Please note that any changes to the details of your air booking, could be subject to a change fee, penalties or cancellation.

Can I reserve a seat assignment?

For our packages that include flights, we do not usually assign seats. In most cases, you can request specific seats, but this may incur a small fee payable to the airline. For more information, contact our sales and reservations staff.

Once confirmed, are airlines seats always guaranteed?

In most cases, seat assignments are firm. However, airlines may sometimes reassign seats for operational reasons. This often happens at the last moment and is controlled by airline staff, with Indus Travel not being notified. Passengers are encouraged to reconfirm their seat assignments and any other special requests directly with their airline prior to departure.

Should I check-in online?

It always recommended and more convenient to check in online. It will shorten your waiting time at the airport, secure your seat assignments and other reservations.

Can I request a special meal on the flight?

Requests may be made for special meals. These requests will be sent on your behalf to the airline so long as Indus receives these request prior to your documents being issued. The availability of special meals will be based upon the specific airlines and will be at their discretion.

Can I use my frequent flier miles?

Accrued frequent flier miles cannot be used toward the purchase of Indus Travels’ airfare or used for class upgrades. However, airfare purchased through Indus Travels may qualify to earn you additional miles.


AIRPORT PROCEDURES

What is required when I check-in?

Ticketed passengers must show correct identification at check-in. Children must have a parent present at check-in and all tickets must be in each passenger's name.

What is required with International travel?

An international trip may require valid travel documents such as passport, visa, re-entry permit, health certificate, inoculation record, a ticket for the return journey or continuance of your trip, or ANY combination thereof. Passengers are responsible for the proper documentation. Concerns about the required travel documents may be resolved by contacting the appropriate consulate or embassy.
