Ephesus

Nemrut Dağ

In the Eastern Taurus Mountains, you will find Mount Nemrut. Situated in the southeast, this magnificent archaeological site is one of the most unique sites you will find. At 2,134 meters high, it’s one of the highest peaks in the range and will stun you with its striking beauty. There are many statues at the summit and a tomb that is believed to date all the way back to the 1st century BC.

Sümela Monastery

Named after the place where it was situated, previously known as Mela Mountain, this Greek orthodox monastery is renowned for its fascinating location. It is dedicated to the Theotokos and was established in c. 386 CE. It is particularly unique as the Sümela Monastery is one of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world. You can go and explore the ruins for yourself as the site is accessible by bus from Trabzon or Maçka and is less than a one-hour drive from the city!
