Island Hopping: Another Way of Experiencing the Galapagos

In the past, cruises were the only way to visit the islands of the Galapagos. However, the development of boutique hotels and other infrastructure on the islands has made it possible to island hop, which many people find prefer to cruises.

When you island hop the Galapagos, not only will you save a huge amount of money that would’ve gone towards an expensive cruise, but you’ll be able to spend that money on something much more worth it. Use it on an activity such a snorkeling, scuba diving, sea kayaking, or splurge on a nice dinner at a beachside restaurant. There are so many better things to spend that money on than simply a cruise around the islands.

By island hopping, you’ll also enjoy increased comfort while helping support the local people. Instead of sleeping on a cramped boat rocking back and forth inducing seasickness, you’ll sleep in comfortable boutique hotels on land. Not only will better quality sleep help you enjoy the many activities you’ll want to partake in during the day, sleeping and eating on the islands will also help support the local people instead of the just the wealthy cruise ship corporations.

Island hopping the Galapagos also brings a level of freedom that you don’t get on a cruise ship. Instead of getting dropped off at each island for a few hours before hopping back on the ship, you can stay on the island for as long as you want, whether that be a few hours, days, or even weeks. With more time, you’ll open up additional activities that aren’t even available to people on cruises, such as hiking a volcano rim, completing a scuba diving course, or just casually strolling around the beach. By minimizing your time spent traveling on a boat between islands, you’ll maximize your time on the land doing activities and immersing yourself in nature, which is probably the reason you’re visiting the Galapagos in the first place.
