The fort was built primarily as a military structure, but Shah Jahan upgraded it to a palace and later it became his gilded prison for 8 years after his son Aurangzeb seized power. The elegant building inside reflects an interesting synthesis of Hindu and Central Asian architectural styles.

Morning: Drive to Jaipur, enroute visit Fatehpur Sikri -an eerily abandoned capital from the Mughal Empire between 1570 and 1586. Akbar built this city to celebrate the birth of his son and future heir to the throne, Emperor Jahangir. Sadly, it served as capital for little more than a decade, eventually abandoned for lack of accessible water.

This is a beautiful and very well preserved structure, built on four levels and surrounded by ruins, which served as the backdrop for the Mira Nair movie “Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love.”

Inside the complex we will find the exquisite crystal gallery, exhibiting 19th century pieces including crystal chandeliers, tables, sofas and beds. We will continue walking towards the Jagdish Temple to study its many remarkable friezes. The first glimpse of the honey colored walls of the fort, rising out of the hot and barren desert is magical. Untouched by time, Jaisalmer, with its golden crenulated walls, narrow streets lined with exquisite havelis, has a medieval ambience.
Afternoon: Arrive in Jaisalmer; check in to the hotel
Evening: At leisure
Accommodation: Overnight in Jaisalmer
Meals Included: Breakfast

Breakfast: At hotel
Morning: Tour Jaisalmer; the fort, often referred to as the Golden Fort because of the color of the stone, encloses palaces decorated with delicate jali or lattice worked screens, carved doors and floral carvings and elaborately carved 12th to 16th century Jain temples. The havelis in both the fort and the town are exceptional, similar in style to the homes of Venetian merchants; the havelis were the mansions of wealthy traders. The houses are decorated with beautifully carved facades, screens and windows. Each haveli has an inner courtyard surrounded by richly decorated apartments. Walk through the narrow streets of the fort to see the Nathmalji-ki-Haveli with its beautiful arched roof with carved brackets in the form of peacocks; Patwon-ki-Haveli the most elaborate and magnificent haveli and best known for its latticed façade and Salim Singh
ki Haveli. Outside the walls of the fortified town is the small oasis of Gadi Sagar, which led Prince Jaisal to found his city.
Evening: Optional: Enjoy a unique camel ride: USD 45/CAD 60 per person, based on a minimum of 10 pax
See the sunset at Sam Dunes known for its enormous stretch of sweeping dunes with little or no vegetation that make it a surrealistic landscape with ever changing patterns carved by winds on the sand. Good morning Ayesha

Lew and I are home and starting to get rested.
Thank you for arranging such an excellent trip for us.
India was many and poor...huge palaces and homeless...cattle on the road....traffic everywhere.
Our accommodations were an excellent variety , hotels, palaces, resorts, heritage sites ,mud construction. Exposure to many cultures.

Shailendra Singh Udawat, our guide, showed his love and pride in his country...gave us wonderful tales of the past, Explained carefully what we were about to see, handled all the tips by collecting from each of us so that we were not constantly reaching into our wallets for rupees.
I would recommend that you request him as a guide for any tours you organize.

All in all , a wonderful adventure and we certainly will be recommending your company to any who express a desire to see such fabulous countries.

Thanks again,
Lew and Jean R. , Feb 2015

Just a quick note to let you know the Royal India trip was WONDERFUL.
Everything about it - the organization - hotels, transportation, etc. could not have been better.
Mihapal was the perfect guide - informative, solicitous, and certainly giving value-added service.
His driver and helper were also pleasant, and helpful.
I loved every minute of the bus rides through India, and the wonderful sites we visited.

Lois , Mar 2014
I am writing to thank you for all of your assistance in arranging our recent tour of India. I must admit that my wife and I were, at first, a bit apprehensive of booking an inexpensive tour over the internet. Any concerns we had were quickly dispelled. The Royal India tour was nothing short of fantastic. The accommodations, transportation, transfers from the airport, and guide services were much more than we had expected. Our tour guide Chandresh was a delight. He was extremely knowledgeable, always had a smile on his face and kind words even were faced with adversity, and provided us with many extras which were not on the written itinerary. He is a true asset to Indus Travel. Your assistance in remedying the very short layover time between connecting flights and notifying us of the change in pick up location in Delhi due to the holiday there was invaluable.

We believe Indus Travel offers exception service and value. We would highly recommend you and Indus to anyone looking to wishing to visit India.

Thanks once again.

Ray and Pam Hight , Feb 2012
My wife and I have just completed two of your tours: Royal India and Naturally Nepal (Oct 20 to Nov 10, 2011).

Overall impression of your Royal India tour - absolutely wonderful and an enjoyable experience of a life time. What made this so? The itinerary, the selection of cities, the selection of hotels, the accompaniment of a wonderful full time professional travel guide (Mahipal Shekhawat). Everything was perfect. We never encountered a problem during our holiday. All arrangements were successfully met from the start to our farewell.

My wife and I have no hesitations what so ever to recommend this trip and your firm.

Well done INDUS !

Rex & Susan Frost, British Columbia - Canada , Oct 2011

Don't know if you'll recognize my name, but I was on the trip to India you accompanied part way. In brief, the trip through India was fabulous, very well organized I thought.

My favorite parts were the elephant and camel rides. Must be the child in me. The timing of the camel ride at sunset was SO dramatic. I'll never forget it.

It was fun traveling with you, and I thought our group was splendid.

Happy Christmas
Ruth, Saskatoon , Nov 2010
Hello Ayesha,

Yes, we had a great time on the trip. Having just the six of us on the tour in the North made it really nice. We all got on very well and had some flexibility in spontaneously stopping along the road to explore places and things not on the itenary. The pre-arranged activities were very enjoyable for the most part. The block printing and weaving exhibition were good as was the silver shop visit. We loved the camel and elephant ride in addition to the rickshaw ride. We found your local staff very good--we were met at the airports, the hotels were very good, and the drivers and guide excellent. I would certainly use Indus Travels again in the future and recommend them to anyone planning a trip. On a final note, I really appreciate your patience and guidance in helping me get this trip together.

Thank you, Ayesha! We hope to return to India in a year or two and will certainly contact you when we're ready to. Bye for now.
