Where to Go For a Safari Depending on the Time of Year

Mother nature changes with the seasons, so the conditions for safaris will be different depending on when you plan your trip. It depends on the animals and their living patterns, including breeding seasons and migrations. The experience can be completely different if you travel at different time of year, so this is important to keep in mind. Here are some tips on where to go for a safari and what you can expect during each season!

Tanzania

The ideal months in Tanzania for spotting wildlife during the dry season. Why? Because the landscape dries up and the only available water is in a few small watering holes, so the thirsty animals are drawn out of the dense bush and into the open.

If you want to see the spectacular wildebeest migration across the Serengeti, the best time to visit is from June to July. For those who want to visit Tanzania for bird watching, the best time of the year to go is from November to May.

South Africa

The winter dry season during the months of May to October is also the best time for game viewing in South Africa, for the same reasons as in Tanzania. The animals congregate at the waterholes and the vegetation is more sparse, so you can see them better.

Avoid visiting the Kruger Park area from December to March, as this is when there will be heavy summer thunderstorms and you could find yourself stuck inside your tent in the rain.

Botswana

Botswana is another one of the most spectacular wildlife destinations in Africa. Again, game viewing will be at its peak from May to October. However, the cooler months of June to August are also highly desirable as well, as the temperatures will be more comfortable and there will still be plenty of opportunities to spot animals.

The Kalahari region offers excellent summer game viewing, especially since it lies on the path of migrating animals such as zebras. When it comes to bird watching, Botswana is a year-round destination.

So, the ideal safari destination and time of year will depend on what animals you want to see and what kind of experience you want to have. To learn more about the safari tour packages that we have to offer, please feel free to contact us today.
