Holi originated as a Hindu festival celebrated in India and Nepal, but has since spread and become a popular event throughout South East Asia and beyond. This festival celebrates the victory of good over evil while honoring the Hindu god, Lord Vishnu, however, you needn’t be Hindu or even religious to join in! Holi is the perfect excuse to have fun with friends and family while celebrating the beauty of Spring. All the activities

So what exactly do you do during the festival of Holi? You color yourself and your surroundings in every way possible! Most of the day is spent at outdoor parties throwing colored powder and or water at others. In most cities of India, you will find live music and dancing throughout this joyous day. Night time extravaganzas

The Holika Dahan, a giant bonfire, marks the eve of Holi and really puts all who participate in the spirit. During this bonfire, you witness the Puja, where people sing, dance and symbolically walk around the fire.

Holi is a great day of fun but it’s also important to be adequately prepared! The festival of Holi is an excuse for people to let loose, get crazy and even dirty. With colored powder flying in all directions, it’s important to protect your eyes and mouth as much as possible.  It goes without saying, don’t wear anything you aren’t prepared to throw away!
