Cities You Shouldn’t Miss When Going to India

India is an unforgettable travel destination filled with plenty of fascinating cities!

The chaotic streets can be overwhelming to the senses when you first arrive, but when you relax into the rhythm you’ll find yourself falling in love with the spectacular beauty of India. The culture is like nowhere else in the world, the history is rich and storied and the architecture is truly stunning. You’ll find yourself lost in a dizzying world of colors, textures, sights, smells and sounds that will never fade from your memory.

While you will likely begin your trip by flying into one of the main cities such as Delhi or Mumbai, be sure to make some time in your itinerary to explore a few of the other cities of India. Here are a few of the most interesting cities to visit during your trip.

Jaipur

The colorful streets of Jaipur are filled with an exciting mix of peaceful hotels, welcoming restaurants and bright, bustling markets. Above it all in the arid hills near to the city is the Amber Fort, the star attraction of the city. It was the capital of Rajasthan until 1728 and it offers stunning views of the countryside. Also, make sure that you visit Jal Mahal, a gorgeous palace floating on Man Sagar Lake – the ideal spot for photo opportunities.

Kolkata

The second largest city in India, Kolkata has many facets – from modern glamour to squalid decay and everything in between. It is regarded as the artistic, intellectual and cultural capital of India. Although the poverty here is heartbreaking, there is also a middle class that drives the industry of the city. Within the historic colonial era architecture you’ll find an emerging hipster culture, a vibrant art scene and the complex flavours of Bengali cuisine.

Chennai

Chennai is incredibly important in the religious, culinary and artistic traditions of Southern India. Here you can check out the excellent museums, explore the beautiful temples, party at the swanky clubs and bars and savour the delicious flavours of South Indian food. You can take a break from the sweltering heat in one of the air-conditioned, cosmopolitan shopping malls. At the end of a big day of exploring, take the opportunity to saunter down Marina Beach and admire the sunset.

These are just a few of the cities that you should miss on your travels around India. Where will you go on your next trip?
