While a city as breathtaking and diverse as Cape Town deserves plenty of time to explore, if you only have one day you can still get a great feel of the city! Make the most of your day in Cape Town with incredible activities like exploring historical museums, hiking the greatest mountains, tasting South African delicacies and wandering the bustling inner-city streets. You will never get bored in this bustling cosmopolitan city.
Begin your day by hopping on the City Sightseeing Cape Town Bus, which stops at plenty of extraordinary attractions. You can hop on and off the bus as many times as you would like! History buffs may want to hop off at the famous South African Museum to learn about the country’s natural history. You may also learn about racial injustice in the 1970s at the District Six Museum. Are you more into beaches? Then don’t miss Camps Bay, where you can relax on pristine white sand and swim in turquoise waters.
Try to make it to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront by lunch, where you can discover the vibrant entertainment complex, explore the shops, ride the Ferris wheel, visit the aquarium, or eat at one of the famous waterside restaurants as you enjoy the lively atmosphere of the harbor.
After lunch you may catch the ferry to Robben Island, arguably the best-known island prison in the world. Here you will tour the prison where Nelson Mandela was jailed for 18 of his 27 incarnation years.
Once you’re back in the mainland hop on the bus and head over to Table Mountain. If you’re an enthusiastic hiker, you can climb the trails — otherwise ride the cable car for an exhilarating journey to the top. Either option will reward you with stunning panoramic views of the entire South African Peninsula.
If it’s near dusk, swing by the Rumbullion at The Roundhouse. Enjoy a glass of wine with breathtaking views over Camps Bay and the Atlantic Ocean at sunset. From there you may catch the cable car back to the city for dinner. Bree Street is a fabulous place to dine, with hip new restaurants and bars making it one of the trendiest streets of the city.
