A Day in Cape Town

A city as diverse as Cape Town deserves more than one day to explore, but with only one day, you can still get a great feel for the city. From visiting history museums, to hiking up mountains, to indulging in the fabulous culinary scene, to wandering the buzzing inner-city streets, you’ll never be bored in the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town.

Start your day by hopping on the City Sightseeing Cape Town bus, which stops at various attractions and allows you to hop on and off as often as you’d like. If you love history, you may want to hop off at the famous South African Museum to learn about natural history, or the District Six Museum, where you’ll learn about racial injustices in the 1970s. If you’re more into beaches, don’t miss Camps Bay, where you can relax on pristine white sand and swim in turquoise waters.

Try to make it by lunchtime to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, where you can stroll the vibrant entertainment complex, shop, ride the Ferris wheel, visit the aquarium, or eat at one of the famous waterside restaurants while soaking in the lively atmosphere of the harbor.

After lunch, catch the ferry from the Waterfront over to Robben Island, which is quite possibly the most well known island prison in the world. Here you’ll tour the prison where Nelson Mandela was jailed for 18 of his 27 incarnation years.

Once you’re back on the mainland, hop back on the bus over to Table Mountain. If you’re a passionate hiker, you can climb up, otherwise ride the cable car for a thrilling journey to the top. Either option will reward you with stunning panoramic views of the entire South African peninsula.

If it’s nearing dusk, swing by the Rumbullion at The Roundhouse to sip a glass of wine while enjoying the sunset over Camps Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. From there catch the cable car back to the city for dinner. Bree Street is a fabulous place to dine, with hip new restaurants and bars making it one of the trendiest streets of the city.
